Aftercare for Eyebrow Tattoo Enhancement

Short-term side-effects

Here are some side-effects our clients commonly experience after treatment, usually in the first 4 days or so. They're a sign that the skin is healing. You can use a disposable cold pack to ease symptoms.

  • Mild swelling, redness and tenderness
  • Itchiness and dry, flaking skin

Our 5 aftercare top tips

  1. Regularly apply Skin Jelly, at least 3 times per day in days 1-10, with a cotton bud. Wash your hands before and after, use a new cotton bud for each eyebrow, and dispose of after use. You should also apply Newgex 3 times a day for the first two days, in the same way we’ve outlined above.
  2. Clean the treated area twice daily with a gentle facial cleanser, applied with damp cotton pads, taking care not to splash water on your face. If your enhancement becomes wet, pat dry gently with a clean tissue.
  3. Apply Vaseline to the eyebrows with a damp cotton pad when washing your hair, to prevent the enhancement becoming wet. The Vaseline can be removed with a damp cotton pad too.
  4. Try not to pick, peel and/or rub the area, which could cause uneven colour, infection or scarring.
  5. Avoid: makeup for three days, skincare treatments for five days, and any hair touching the area, which could cause infection.

One more thing…

Take care to avoid the following for at least 2 weeks after treatment:

  • Direct sunlight
  • Tanning and heat treatments (spas, saunas etc)
  • Salt water and chlorinated pools
  • Jacuzzis and direct shower spray
  • Eyebrow tinting, waxing, electrolysis or laser hair removal in the area

Aftercare for Eye Liner Tattoo Enhancement

Short-term side-effects

Below are some common side-effects you may experience in the first four days or so following your semi permanent eye liner  treatment. They show your skin is healing. You can use a disposable cold pack to ease symptoms.

  • Swelling, redness, tenderness and slight pin-prick bruising of the eyelids
  • Sticky eyelashes, which may stick together, especially at night
  • Dry and itchy skin in the surrounding area
  • In very rare occasions, some eyelashes may fall out, which usually grow back in around 4 months

Our 5 aftercare top tips

  1. Regularly apply Skin Jelly, at least three times per day, with a cotton bud. Wash your hands before and after, use a new cotton bud for each eye, and dispose of after use.
  2. Clean your new tattoo eyeliner twice daily with a gentle facial cleanser, applied with damp cotton pads, taking care not to splash water on your face. If your enhancement becomes wet, pat dry gently with a clean tissue.
  3. You can use a chemist's antibiotic eye cream to prevent eye infections. If you use a beauty eye cream, take care not to apply it over the enhancement. You can also protect your eyes from the elements with sunglasses, and take care to keep hair out of your eyes to minimise the chance of infection.
  4. Try not to pick, peel and/or rub the area, which could cause uneven colour, infection or scarring.
  5. Avoid: contact lenses for 24 hours,  makeup for three days – and ensure you replace any eye products then lastly skincare treatments for five days.

What to expect…

How long does healing take?

Healing usually takes around 14 days, but everyone's different and this is just a guide. Aftercare is partly about helping skin heal, so if you've been coping with stress, illness or poor diet around the time of your procedure, it might slow down how quickly your skin recovers. If this is the case, just say, and we'll factor in a little extra time, just for you.

What things could affect my results?

If you occasionally get cold sores (the herpes simplex virus), one may pop up after treatment, so we recommend using your usual cold sore cream (as directed on the packaging) for the first week of healing. Alternatively, you can get a prescription for oral prevention from your doctor.

It's also a good idea to keep your skin sun-safe and protected from ageing UV rays while out and about, especially as they can cause results to fade early. Many beauty products have built-in SPF, but if you’re in any doubt, let us know and we can recommend something that suits your skin type.

Finally, smoking could affect your results, as it slows down healing and can dry out the skin. We suggest drinking plenty of water, too, particularly as hydrated skin can recover faster.

What if I'm unhappy with my results?

In our experience, this is a rare situation, and it's all thanks to our experience, the tools and techniques we use, and our solid aftercare advice. If you are concerned at any point, get in touch, and we’ll do our best to help put things right.

Remember, your chosen colour will be stronger and more sharply defined for several days after application, but will soften and lighten as your skin heals:

You’ll also need to attend a follow-up appointment in each case, to correct any colour unevenness which naturally occurs*.

Will people know I've had a procedure?

We know that lots of our clients want it to be our little beauty secret – so we won't tell if you don't! But please bear in mind that it depends on the type of look you're going for and what type of makeup you choose. If you want something discreet and natural, say no more – our lips are sealed!

What else should I know?

If you're planning a chemical peel, laser or IPL treatment, MRI scan or eye surgery after your treatment, please talk to your doctor before going ahead. Also, please talk to the National Blood Service if you donate blood, as you may not be able to do this for a few months after your treatment.
